In their own words: Inspiration from breast cancer survivors

These Susan G. Komen Global Race for the Cure participants have beaten the disease and now turn to the race to provide support and resources to others battling breast cancer.

Beth Swanson

I am a two-time breast cancer survivor (14 and 7 years) and have volunteered with the Komen National Race for over 10 years, working in all aspects of the race: office support, registration events, supporting and speaking at sponsored events. I founded the original Bosom Buddies team in 1998 and have organized and hosted fundraising events such as dinner/dances and golf tournaments. I volunteer as a mentor for newly diagnosed breast cancer patients. I received a Komen Advocate Award and was honored by being named the 2007 Survivor of the Year. I’m currently serving on the executive task force of the survivor committee with emphasis on registration efforts.
