Beating the summer heat in D.C.

People across D.C. spent the day finding ways to beat the heat. More than half the month has been 95 degrees or higher, threatening to be the hottest July on record. See how residents coped with the triple digit temperatures.

A view of the Yards Park canal and fountain, which is a few blocks east of Nationals Stadium and adjacent the Anacostia River. The canal is meant for wading, not swimming, as it's only a foot or two deep.
