Alaska Volcano
Mount Katmai, Alaska, was the site of the greatest volcanic eruption of the 20th century. It released 30 times the amount of magma that erupted from Mount St. Helens in 1980. The first explorers to this area nicknamed the valley the “Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes,” because of the intense heat and ash generated from the eruption.
