D.C. Beautification Day works to spruce up D.C. Public Schools

Thousands of volunteers turned out this Saturday for the annual D.C. Public Schools "Beautification Day" event in an effort to “spruce up” D.C. public school buildings ahead of the first day of school.

Chancellor Kaya Henderson (left) talked with Chief of Police Cathy Lanier at Orr Elementary School during the District's eighth annual Beautification Day. Saturday's event enlisted a few thousand volunteers at 115 different schools to paint, pick up trash, garden, and give an overall shine before students arrive on Monday.
