Visualizing 2012 Sea Ice Minimum
This side by side image of the Arctic sea ice gives an idea of how much less sea ice there is currently compared to the amount of ice in 1984. In September 2012, NASA and the National Snow and Ice Data Center announced the amount of Arctic sea ice had dropped and was about half the average.
