2012 Blessing of the Animals at the Washington National Cathedral
Pets from all over the D.C. area came to the Washington National Cathedral Sunday for the annual Blessing of the Animals, which honors St. Francis of Assisi's love for animals.
A crowd of humans, cats, dogs, and at least one fish gathered for the opening prayer. The annual Blessing of the Animals ceremony "honors the feast day of Saint Francis of Assisi (c. 1180–1226), patron saint of animals and the environment," according to the Washington National Cathedral's website description.
