Daily Eye Wonder June 2013

A collection of some beautiful, strange, interesting, and fascinating pictures of weather, environment and space that might let you wonder.

Bird Sun Dog

Ever see a rainbow next to the sun? These spectacles are known as sundogs. Sundogs are just sunlight refracting through hexagonal falling ice crystals in the Earth's atmosphere. When thin ice crystals flitter down nearly horizontally, they best refract sunlight sideways and create sundogs. This image was taken through a polarizing filter in Mérida, Spain.
