March on Washington photos, August 28, 2013

Wednesday marks the 50th anniversary of one of the most important events in the civil rights struggle. The March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom took place on Wednesday, August 28th 1963. Fifty years later, thousands gathered on the National Mall to celebrate the event with a march from the Washington Monument to the Lincoln Memorial.

D.C. resident Melinda Fallen, who also attended the demonstrations here in 1963, held a "Justice for Trayvon Martin" sign during the “March for Jobs and Justice� on Aug. 28, 2013.
