The mayor of Washington, Ill., estimates that up to 500 homes in his town were either damaged or destroyed by a wave of fierce storms that brought damaging winds and tornadoes to 12 states yesterday. Mayor Gary Manier says, "Everybody's without power, but some people are without everything." At least six people in Illinois were killed and dozens more injured.
The home of Phyllis Rawlins sits on an adjacent rail road track after being destroyed by a tornado in Kokomo, Ind., Monday, Nov. 18, 2013. Sunday's storm picked up Rawlins' Victorian-style house and moved it about 100 feet, leaving a 15-foot pile of debris on nearby train tracks.
