Fairfax County mosquitoes already descending on area

A warmer-than-usual winter and a sticky and soggy weather pattern over the past few weeks likely means that more mosquitoes are headed our way, and in one region, they've already arrived.

This week's relentless rain in parts of the area, coupled with an oversoaked ground and high temperatures and humidity, create ideal conditions for the biting pests.

In response, Fairfax County Health Department scientists are setting up countywide monitoring systems, including 68 traps that can help entomologists gather critical information they need to tell if the bugs carry West Nile Virus.

"We're starting to do surveillance just to make sure it doesn't come in early, especially with the warm winter we had," county entomologist Jorge Arias said. "There's no way of foretelling what's going to happen."

The county is also urging residents to keep an eye on anything that could hold water, potentially creating a breeding ground for more mosquitoes.

Potomac River safety preached by National Park Service

With the beginning of recreational boating, kayaking and hiking season arriving, the National Park Service is trying to spread the word about water safety on the Potomac River.

However, one new trend which has thrill seekers buzzing has emergency workers very concerned, and they're warning people that jumping off cliffs comes with incredible hazard and stiff penalties.

Officials warn jumpers, especially ones who film themselves jumping off cliffs near Great Falls, that they're risking their lives and a $500 fine if caught.

"To jump from a 50-foot cliff and not know what's under the water is dangerous, and it can kill," National Park Service official Jon James said.

That's not the only hazard, either. Officials say rock climbing, hiking accidents or even boats capsizing can cause dangers for the most experienced of outdoor enthusiasts. The water in the Potomac can be deceptive - it looks calm, but it can be rough when you get on it.

Great Falls resident Betsy Train knows that all too well; her husband survived after his canoe capsized last April.

"He held on for two-and-a-half hours, waiting," she said. "The plane went over but didn't see him."

Overall, officials say that the rapids near Great Falls are some of the most dangerous in the world, so recreating this summer should be done with extreme caution.

Talk about being in good hands: a local baby came into this world Wednesday night with the assistance of a police officer.

Arlington County Police Cpl. Steve Troyano was alerted to a woman in labor at a traffic stop in Arlington just after 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Once Cpl. Troyano got to the woman, he helped deliver a healthy baby girl.

While Troyano was at a traffic stop, the mother’s sister sought his assistance in the delivery of the baby in their nearby vehicle.

“When I realized I would be delivering the baby in the backseat, my instincts took over,” Troyano said.

A healthy 6 pound, 3 ounce baby girl was born in the vehicle and then transported to a local hospital with her mother. The baby will be using the middle name “Stephanie” in honor of Troyano, the family told Arlington County Police.

Woodbridge dog theft caught on camera

A Woodbridge family is relieved now that their little Yorkshire teacup is back. "Sassy" was stolen from the family's front yard, and her theft was caught on camera.

Bobbi Allen says her youngest son, Austin, was walking their two dogs Monday afternoon. The Yorkie was lagging behind as Austin walked back home.

Soon, a blue truck pulls up, and a woman gets out and takes the dog.

"It shows her getting [out], looking around and then increasing her pace as she pulls off pretty fast," 15-year-old Austin says of the surveillance footage.

Bobbi says the family had security cameras installed following a series of thefts. It was those cameras that caught Sassy's dognapping on tape.

But, 48 hours later, Sassy is back.

Animal control officers found her wandering around in a neighborhood miles away from home.

"She looks like she's okay, so...I'm just glad they took care of her," Bobbi adds.

Prince William County police say they will continue to review the video taken from the home and determine what the circumstances were around the dog's disappearance.

Prince William County Officer Jonathan Perok says "It might be a simple misunderstanding, but it might also be a crime."

Whatever the circumstances, the Allens are thrilled with the outcome.

Washington Gas settles over 2010 Chantilly house explosion

Washington Gas has agreed to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to the Commonwealth of Virginia as part of a settlement related to the explosion of a house in Chantilly in December of 2010.

The State Corporation Commission announced the approval of the settlement Wednesday, more than a year and a half after a gas explosion that destroyed a home on Lees Corner Road in Chantilly on Dec. 19, 2010.

The utility came under fire in the wake of the explosion after ABC 7 News obtained an internal memo saying that the company would not undertake any inspections of gas lines because doing so could turn up further leaks.

According to the terms of the settlement, Washington Gas will pay the Commonwealth of Virginia at least $154,800, with another $219,700 due if other actions outlined in the settlement are not performed.

No one was injured in the explosion. The home belonged to the Nguyens, a family of four who was out to dinner at the time.

"Everything we built up for my whole life and it's gone," says Thuan Nguyen. "It's really tough to look at."

The other actions required by Washington Gas as part of the settlement include the replacement of each copper service line in the neighborhood where the explosion occurred.

'Girls on the Run' teaches teamwork, unity

An early Sunday morning for some was also the start of a 5K race and the end of a long journey for nearly 4,000 elementary and middle school girls from across Northern Virginia.

“It teaches us a bunch of teamwork and how to work together,” said Natalie Allen, a fourth grader at Lees Corner Elementary.

After school, two days a week, every week, these girls have been training for the race—that was held Sunday at George Mason University. But, it's the important life lessons they've learned along the way that is at the core of "Girls on the Run."

“It teaches you how to solve things in life. It helps you a lot and makes you stronger as a person,” said Lees Corner Elementary fourth grader Ryna Malik.

Laurie Walowsky is one of the 650 volunteer coaches that work with the girls at 200 schools.

“It's a fabulous way to teach the girls that they can do anything they put their minds to, setting goals, accomplishing what they want to do for themselves,” said Walowsky of Lees Corner.

The program instills confidence and self-esteem.

“I've had some girls that are very shy and then they start coming out of their shells and it's just a beautiful sight,” Walowsky.

And to run the 5K, each girl had to get an adult to run with them, usually mom or dad.

“Not only has she become a better runner, but she's also become a better person. She's more outgoing. She's more considerate of others,” said Jennifer Chapman, a mother of a student in the 5K.

So, with the help of Girls on the Run, the future for these girls looks very bright.

Hanover Sheriff David Hines honored at national awards ceremony

For Hanover County Sheriff Colonel David Hines, Wednesday was another good day on the job.

Wednesday morning, Hines was among the more than a dozen honored during the National Law Enforcement Awards on Capitol Hill, for their work to solve missing child cases.

It was last summer when Colonel Hines led the search efforts near Richmond to find eight year old Robert Wood Jr., an autistic non-speaking boy, who went missing while visiting a battlefield with his family.

After five days, the help of several hundred volunteers, and hundreds of first responders, Hines was able to make the announcement many waited to hear: the boy had been found and he was safe.

Hines says it was the great teamwork that should be honored—without which he believes the successful outcome would not have been possible.

“For the region to be awarded ... speaks volumes,” Hines said.

Law enforcement officers from six states and members of the military received awards alongside Hines. While many say they were just doing their job, today many called them angels in uniform.

The timing of the awards coincides with the National Missing Children’s Day, May 25.

Christopher Rigby shot, killed in Stafford County money dispute

A 29-year-old homeless man was shot and killed during a struggle in a Falmouth parking lot late Tuesday night, allegedly because the man was angry about not getting money from the shooter, authorities say.

Stafford County Sheriff's officials say the shooting happened at about 11 p.m. Tuesday in the parking lot of Earl's Shopping center in the 300 block of Chatham Heights Road in Falmouth. Detectives say the incident started when the homeless man, identified as Christopher Rigby, went up to a car where a man and woman were talking to ask for money.

After being told no, Rigby walked away, but returned about 15 minutes later, officials say. When he came back, Rigby allegedly lunged through the driver's side window and tried to stab the man.

During the course of the attack, police say that the driver, who holds a concealed weapons permit, was able to get a handgun out of the glove compartment. He then fired at Rigby, killing him.

Sheriff's officals say that another man who fled the scene, who describes himself as Rigby's friend, said that Rigby had grown enraged that the man in the car had not given him money and returned to seek revenge. The witness also described Rigby as the aggressor in the incident.

The shooter was not seriously injured during the struggle. He has not been charged, but the shooting is still under investigation.

Universal Fairs buys State Fair of VIrgnia

DOSWELL, Va. (AP) - The owner of a Tennessee-based amusement company placed the winning bid Tuesday for the State Fair of Virginia, buying both the 150-year-old fair and the event site, which includes where Triple Crown winner Secretariat was born.

Mark Lovell, owner of Cordova, Tenn.-based Universal Fairs, successfully bid $5.35 million at an auction for the State Fair of Virginia's intellectual property as well as its real estate. He's also paying an additional $320,000 for the auction house's fees, bringing the total cost to $5.67 million.

Lovell said at a news conference Tuesday that he has already contracted for midway rides and vendors, and plans to stage the fair Sept. 28 through Oct. 7.

He said he's "excited about the opportunity that's been given to us," but added he would have been glad to pay less for the property.

State Fair of Virginia Inc. acquired the Meadow Farm property in 2003 for $5.3 million and moved the annual fair from Richmond, where it had been held since 1854. The nonprofit defaulted on about $80 million in financing from a group of creditors and was forced to liquidate, casting uncertainty on this year's event.

Tuesday's live auction featured Meadow Event Park's real estate, including a 12,900-square-foot manor house, a 76,000-square-foot exhibition hall, a 9,700-square-foot pavilion and an extensive equestrian facility. The package also includes the State Fair of Virginia trademark, website and social media accounts. Secretariat's preserved foaling shed and yearling barn also is on the property.

Secretariat won the Triple Crown in 1973 and died in 1989.

After the site underwent nearly $100 million in construction projects, the fair debuted in Caroline County in September 2009. Attendance hit a record 250,000 last year, but the group was unable to make money after the fair left Richmond.

The organization took on massive debt for the project, even as the economy worsened and the stock-market slump shrank its investment portfolio. It also failed to curb spending, with State Fair president Curry A. Roberts and a handful of officers continuing to draw outsized salaries, according to documents in the bankruptcy case as well as SFVA's own filings with the Internal Revenue Service.

The group filed for bankruptcy protection in December and proposed to buy out the bondholders to settle the debt. The creditors declined, saying the offered amount wasn't near what they were owed. SFVA subsequently liquidated its assets.

Several groups had expressed interest in buying the property and staging this year's fair in September, as regularly scheduled. Lovell was one of nearly a dozen bidders at the auction, which wrapped up in about half an hour.

SFVA Inc. sued Universal Fairs for trademark infringement and unfair competition in 2009, alleging that its affiliates were improperly using "State" in the name of a planned rival event that year at the Richmond International Raceway complex - the longtime home of the fair before it moved to Caroline County. Universal Fairs agreed to stop using "State" and the sides settled the lawsuit. The event wasn't held at the raceway.

Alexandria cameras catch thousands of red light runners

Red light runners are racking up quite a bill in Alexandria. The city's three red light cameras are keeping an eye on traffic at all times.

So far this year, thousands of tickets have been handed out to drivers who run the light.

And while they may be a pain for drivers, the cameras haven't stopped many from speeding through the lights.

Last summer, traffic cameras were installed in the intersections of Duke and Walker streets, Gibbon and South Patrick streets and Franklin and South Patrick streets.

Police say they are alarmed by the number of people who continue to run the lights despite the cameras' presence.

Alexandria resident Mo Kay says, "Yeah you're thinking you're probably gonna make it, and it's not gonna go off, you know, but it doesn't work out sometimes it's faster than you think it is."

In the last four months, the city's cameras have issued more than 3,200 red light tickets. The statistic is on par with the first few months of the program.

Jody Donaldson, with the Alexandria Police Department, says, "We're consistently seeing these numbers that makes us think that either people aren't paying attention to speed or the lights themselves, and it is a concern."

The intersection that concerns them the most is at South Patrick Street near the entrance to the beltway. The traffic camera in this location has issued nearly 2,000 tickets from January through April.

At $50 a piece, the fines are fairly low in Alexandria compared to other communities in the area. But the fine is enough to make some drivers slow down.

"It was a pretty good chunk, and I was upset about that," District resident Tony Nel says.

But with dozens of people continuing to run the lights on a daily basis, the city is looking at what other options it has to get people to stop running lights.

Prince William road closures due to flooding

Roads across Prince William County have reopened after the floods and high-water dangers that closed them.

Flood waters on some roads in Virginia reached waist high Wednesday night.

Crews were out with boats and told ABC7 News they performed two water rescues. No injuries were reported.

Thursday morning, ABC7’s Jummy Olabanji went to Bristow, Va., one of the cities hardest hit by heavy rains, to give an update on the conditions there.

As you can imagine, it was a challenge driving in western Prince William County: water covered roadways at almost every turn at times.

Rain powered Broad Run Creek to consume asphalt, even while vehicles were on it. Even lifelong residents say they don't remember this kind of widespread flooding.

"It's pretty amazing, I've never seen it this high," says resident Jason Fox.

Flood waters split part of Aden Road to create a wash-out Monday morning. VDOT workers had it paved over by afternoon. But another main thoroughfare in this part of the county, Bristow Road, was submerged until the rain stopped and the water could go elsewhere.

Cautious eyes were on Lake Jackson, where there was concern about the volume of water running through it.

Flooding shut down a number of roads throughout the Gainesville area in Prince William County, officials say.

Sinkholes have opened and roads have closed due to the flooding, and the National Weather Service has extended a flood warning for urban areas and near small streams until 2:15 p.m. Tuesday.

The road closure on Aden Road at Misty Creek Court is due to a large sinkhole that stretches across both lanes of the road.

Prince William County Fire also said that they rescued a person stuck on the roof of their vehicle in the floodwaters on Piper Lane.

Earlier in the day, Kelly Wieser, on his way to work Tuesday morning, didn't realize the water gushing onto Piper Lane in Manassas was that threatening.

Within minutes the road was swallowed up, and Wieser no longer had control of his white pickup truck. One of nearly a dozen swift water rescues in Prince William County in just a matter of hours.

Challenged by the deluge of rain and an overwhelmed Powell’s Creek, rescue crews were extremely challenged. It took several attempts and locations before being able to get a raft out to the trapped driver.

With the roadway now turned into a deep raging river, crews were able to safely reach the driver, a driver who says he's extremely embarrassed.

"You know what? Trucks can be fixed. I'm alright,” Weiser says. “Aside from a badly damaged ego"

Stafford home invasion has residents upset

A local couple and their baby are recovering from a terrifying ordeal after two masked intruders entered their home and forced them to strip naked.

The couple's neighbors in Widewater Village in Stafford County came together Monday night to discuss what they could do to help such a crime from happening again.

Alyce Vargas of Stafford says, "I'm going to go door-to-door and tell every neighbor that I know, and even people I don't [about] this situation, so they can be aware."

The Stafford County Sheriff's Office says two homes were targeted Sunday night. Both both were on Olympic Drive.

In both cases, the suspects got in through a basement window. At one of the homes, they tore the screen off and ransacked the place. But, the owner hasn't moved in yet and wasn't there.

Unfortunately, the owners' of the second home were there.

Deputies say the two criminals, one carrying a knife, woke the couple up.

After allowing the woman to put her 10-month-old baby in a swing in the basement, the robbers forced the young couple to strip naked and take them through the house to point out things they could steal.

"It angers me that somebody has the audacity to do that," Staford resident Sue Cripe says.

Those who live in the are say they can't believe the thieves would strike there.

James Johnson of Stafford adds, "It's like every other house is either police, firefighter or military officer."

Many residents are armed, and others told ABC 7's Tom Roussey they are now considering buying a weapon to protect themselves.

Authorities say the couple was not physically harm.

Alan Jackson Mineral concert raises money for Louisa County schools

It has been more than 9 months since last August's 5.8 earthquake rocked Mineral, Va., and while the community continues to recover, they got a little star power to help the region.

About 3,000 people turned out Sunday night to watch country superstar Alan Jackson put on a concert to help raise money for the town that was hit so hard by the tremor.

Everyone from the regular joes to the county sheriff says the concert was the biggest thing that's ever happened to Mineral, including the quake. While most of the region has moved on and repaired the damage, many kids in Mineral are still forced to go to school in trailers.

"In writing, we'll all write about the earthquake, so it's been hart," Thomas Jefferson Elementary School student Ashlyn Ward said.

Meanwhile, the senior class at Louisa County High school memorialized the earthquake on t-shirts.

Jackson's appearance in Mineral was a psychological and financial success, raising not only the spirits of the town, but $152,000 to help Louisa County rebuild its schools.

"After the earthquake, and suffering so much damage and heartache, a lot of people started voting for this city even if they weren't from this city," Jackson said.

The singer chose Mineral as the site of his free show after organizers and supporters cast votes online to put the show in the Virginia town that has a population of just 467.

"(It) wound up with 30,000 votes, and here we are today," Jackson said.

Virginia retreat to become sanctuary for wounded warriors

An area in Loudoun County will someday be a sanctuary for wounded warriors. Thirty-seven acres in Bluemont, Virginia have been set aside as a one-of-a-kind retreat for veterans and their families.

For the veterans who lost arms and legs and suffered severe post-traumatic stress disorder after bravely serving our country, transitioning back into civilian life is not easy. But, the Boulder Crest Retreat promises to help.

It’s a celebration of life after tragedy.

Dana Bowman sky-dived to the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains—where a country refuge is taking place. Bowman is just like the more than 40,000 veterans since 2002, who have sustained lifelong injuries in combat. Bowman lost both legs in an Army mid-air collision back in 1994 and longed for a place to reconnect and recover with family.

“My partner died on that tragedy. It changed my whole life,” Bowman said.

Ken Falke says it's scenarios like that, which push him to give back to wounded warriors. Falke is also a disabled veteran who knows firsthand the struggle to rebound.

“We feel very passionate that these families need to get away from those hospitals and deserve a break and that's what we hope to offer here,” said Falke, who is the founder of the Boulder Crest Retreat for Wounded Warriors.

Falke is the brains behind the Boulder Crest Retreat. The $10 million project is funded entirely by private and corporate donations. Injured veterans will be able to spread out in four cabins for up to 14 days without opening their wallets.

“We've had so many volunteers reach out to us. Professional yoga instructors, kayaking instructors and we hope that we can really get them out of the city—get them out here to enjoy some recreation, some rest and just enjoy the outdoors,” Falke said.

Staff Sergeant Timothy Brown who stepped on an IED in Afghanistan back in 2011 and is currently undergoing rehab at Walter Reed in Bethesda can hardly wait to soak up the serenity.

“Just because we're injured doesn't mean…we haven't given up anything. We haven't given up wanting to do what we did before. Places like this will help facilitate that. We're the same person just minus a couple of limbs,” Sergeant Brown said.

The retreat has been two years in the making. The founder hopes to have the doors open next May.

Gray Alan Combs shot, killed in Springfield

A sword-wielding man who was wanted on a litany of charges, including producing and intending to distribute child pornography, was shot and killed by police in Springfield on Saturday night.

Fairfax County Police say officers went to the Springfield area apartment around 11:08 p.m. after hearing that the suspect, 22-year-old Gray Alan Combs, Jr., was hiding in a bedroom.

Police say the man was wanted on several outstanding warrants, including three felony counts of producing child pornography, three felony counts of possessing or reproducing child pornography with the intent to distribute, as well as a misdemeanor warrant for consensual sexual intercourse with a minor.

Those weren't the only things on Combs' rap sheet, either. His extended criminal record includes charges in Fairfax County for a series of GPS thefts. He didn't have a permanent Northern Virginia address, but police say he spent the last few years in the Springfield area, bouncing from residence to residence.

On May 18, officers issued two additional warrants after Combs gave them a fake name and eluded police on foot. Those warrants were for resisting arrest and identity theft.

As officers searched the Backlick Road apartment, they were threatened by the suspect, who was armed with a sword. He was told to put the weapon down, but did not listen. Police say they shot the man with non-lethal bean bag rounds and later used lethal rounds. Combs later died at an area hospital.

His friends, most of whom declined to be identified, called Combs a nice guy, but admit they didn't know about the felony charges against him.

One officer has been placed on administrative leave, which is routine in these situations.

Hopewell's 'Million Dollar Mile' raises huge fine money, controversy

The stretch of I-295 through the city of Hopewell, Va., about 20 miles south of Richmond, only comprises about a mile or two, depending on how you look at it.

What it lacks in length, though, the stretch of highway dubbed the "Million Dollar Mile" is more than made up for in the amount of revenue it generates in fines and citations from the Hopewell Sheriff's Office. The city's sheriff, Greg Anderson, a 63-year-old Vietnam veteran, really hates speeders.

"Don't drive 81 miles per hour or higher in this city, or you are going to get a ticket," Anderson said.

In 2007, Anderson took the small officer, which typically handled court security and civil process papers, and added a dozen deputies to the force. His sole focus has been to ticket speeders on I-295, the highway that bypasses Virginia's capital to the east.

The plan has worked. Since implementation began in September of 2007, the force has collected more than $3.66 million in fines. It peaked in 2011, when the office collected more than $1.6 million from speeders.

What's more remarkable is that a full 72.24 percent of those ticketed since 2007 are from out-of-state. The number of people who reside in Hopewell who are tickets is even smaller.

Needless to say, Anderson and his office's tactics have drawn the ire of advocates and legislators from across the region.

"This is law enforcement happening only to improve the coffers of Hopewell," AAA Mid-Atlantic spokesman Lon Anderson said.

Rick Newman, the Commonwealth's Attorney for Hopewell, supports the idea of cracking down on speeders on I-295, but he wants some of that money to go back toward public safety.

"Bottom line, it's all about the dollars," Newman said. "It's a cash cow, and they're using it as a cottage industry as far as I'm concerned."

Anderson is quick to disagree with that notion, pointing out that thousands of citations for drivers going more than 90 miles per hour on a stretch of road with a speed limit of 70 have been written since enforcement began.

"I believe we've saved many lives out there," he said. "I believe we continue to do that, and yes, money comes into the city."

Virginia State Police officials refused to address reports that it opposes Hopewell's deputies being on I-295. Legislators, though, are more outspoken about the topic, especially when it comes to the millions the city is bringing in. They even managed to attach an amendment to the state budget to grab some of the cash.

That's not slowing Anderson and his deputies down. They still plan to keep scaring speeders into slowing down.

"There's very little I'm afraid of," he said. "I'm afraid of my wife, my mother and my mother-in-law, but other than that, these guys don't scare me one bit.'

Arlington attacks leave women on edge

Woman in Arlington are being urged to be vigilant following an attack on two women in the Clarendon area.

Police are still searching for the man they believe is responsible for the attacks.

"It makes me feel tingly inside. It makes me a little scared," says Toshia Brandon, who works in the area.

Visitor Tina Smith adds, "Always watch your back. Kinda keep your head on a swivel so to speak."

Smith is keeping her guard up after the series of sexual assaults.

"It kinda terrifies me, because you feel like you can walk freely, jog and not have to worry about that, especially in a neighborhood like this," Smith explains.

Police say around midnight May 11 a woman walking in the 2100 block of Lee Highway was grabbed, thrown to the ground and sexually assaulted.

She punched her attacker in the stomach and was thrown into the bushes, as the suspect ran off.

Police say a 26-year-old woman was the victim in the other attack. As she walked inside her garage in the 3300 block of Washington Boulevard, she noticed a man lurking behind.

When she tried to close the door, he blocked the sensor, sending the garage back up. Fortunately, she managed to run inside and call 911.

Arlington resident Christina Hortman lives just a block away from the Washington Boulevard attack. Hortman says the crime makes her "feel nervous."

"...a lot of times when we're working in the yard or doing stuff downstairs in our own house, we leave our garage door open, so it makes me feel not as safe," Hortman adds.

Police say staying safe boils down to common sense.

Arlington Police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck explains, "Trust your instincts. Don't travel alone at night. It goes back to I guess what parents remind their daughters at all times."

According to police, the woman in the Lee Highway attack is also in her mid-20s. Police add both women were in positions where they appeared vulnerable to their attacker.

Juan Duran catches record breaking snakehead fish

A snakehead fish worthy of a world record may have been pulled from the Potomac River.

At four feet long and weighing 18.37 pounds, Juan Duran may have set the new world record for the largest snakehead ever caught.

The current record stands at 17.4 pounds and that fish was caught in Japan, where snakehead fish belong.

Snakehead or so-called "frankenfish" have teeth, can breathe and move out of water. They're considered a predatory and undesirable exotic species by the Commonwealth of Virginia. The species is blamed for the vanishing populations of Potomac River shad, bass and even frogs. Importation of snakeheads is against the law.

"I think they're cool looking...I love the way they fight.. And you can catch them with a bass lure," Duran said. "When you're fighting a fish that big,... concentrate on that one fish - pretty awesome feeling."

The first snakehead was discovered in the Potomac eight years ago. To help cut down on their population, fishermen are advised to kill them when they're caught. However, some people do eat snakeheads.

Duran's pictures and scale were sent to the International Game Fish Association for certification of the world record.
