Eileen Whelan Meteorologist / Weather Producer
I have been a weather enthusiast since a very young age. I grew up watching and studying the weather and have always been interested in storms, clouds, and how the weather, in general, impacts all people.
I went on to study weather further at Salisbury University. I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a double major in Earth & Atmospheric Science and Mass Media. I was very involved with the National Broadcasting Society, The Geographic Society, and various other organizations across campus. I completed two internships while at SU. I interned with Sue Palka at FOX 5 in DC and at WMDT in Salisbury, MD. I also participate, and still do, in Salisbury University's Forecast Contest. It's a nice to actually compete, and occasionally beat, my old meteorology professors.
After graduation, I landed my first on air position at WBOC in Salisbury, MD. I started off working the weekend morning show and then went on to anchor the weekday morning and noon shows. Two and a half years later I'm back, where all my forecasts started, in DC. I couldn't be happier working alongside the StormWatch7 team. They are such a strong and professional group of meteorologists.
I'm excited to be closer to my hometown of Silver Spring, MD., but am also happy that I won't be too far from Maryland's Eastern Shore. I enjoy spending lots of time with my family and friends, reading a good book on the beach, exercising, learning new things about the weather, and meeting new people.
