Three new laws that dictate when and where liquor can be distilled, which days businesses can hold tastings, and how often alcohol can be delivered, are now in effect in the district.
A state lawmaker is reviving a proposal to replace the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Board with a state authority run by people with business experience.
Virginians bought more alcohol in the state's beverage control stores and restaurants as the state agency again saw a record profit in the last fiscal year.
