U.S. defense officials say they will be able to ease the pain of mandatory, unpaid furloughs that civilian employees have had to bear for a month because of budgetary pressures.
Hospital officials say that some employees at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda have already received notice that they'll be furloughed without pay for 11 days - one day a week for the next 11 weeks.
