What started as a call for a river rescue in the Potomac has turned into a death investigation. Crews pulled 53-year-old Karjia Jiang’s body from the river between Great Falls and Mather Gorge Friday.

Great Falls man killed cutting down a tree in backyard

Police say the homeowner was trying to cut down an 18-inch-diameter tree in his backyard in the 900 block of McMillen Court in Great Falls, Virginia. Relatives arrived about 1 p.m. and found the man pinned under the tree.

Young man's body found on rocks at Great Falls on Potomac River

Witnesses on the Virginia side of the river saw the man enter the water south of Riverbend Park in Fairfax County. Montgomery County Police detectives believe the man waded into the middle of the river and drowned. He was trapped under a rock.
