This is the time of year when weather systems can bring copious rainfall and when runoff of melting snow is added, spring flooding occurs. A combination of all these factors and a major dam burst resulted in one of the worst natural disasters in U.S. history on this day 123 years ago in a small steel producing town in Pennsylvania.
