A sanitary necessity is in jeopardy in one Arlington neighborhood. An aging sewer is in desperate need of repair and a dozen homeowners will be stuck footing the bill because the county discovered it neither owns nor has the rights to maintain it.
The doors are back open at the Potomac Yard Harris Teeter. It was closed more than a year ago because of a flood and a bad sewage backup.
Officials say a valve left in the wrong position led to an overflow of 6 million gallons of diluted wastewater at a plant in Accokeek Saturday. And heavy rainfall led to a sewage overflow in Fort Washington starting Friday night.
