Today's Forecast Updated Friday at 3:10 PM

The sun returned in spots today but I wouldn't but away your umbrella just yet.

This Evening:
Sun/Cloud Mix, Spotty Rain (Esp. SW)
Temperatures: 70s
Wind: SE 5-10 mph
Mostly Cloudy, Chance of Showers
Lows: 62°-70°
Wind: E 5-10 mph
The 4th:
Mostly Cloudy, Off/On Rain, Evening Clearing
Highs: Around 80°
Wind: ENE 5-10 mph

While our unsettled pattern will unfortunately carry into the July 4th holiday, it isn’t all bad news. Today the sun did peer out of the clouds and temperatures remained below the seasonal average of 88 degrees. Spotty light showers are possible into the evening, especially southwest of D.C. Another wave of showers is likely tomorrow, which isn’t great for all of the outside holiday activities. Showers will be scattered throughout the day and even into the early evening. So what is the ‘good news’ you are saying to yourself by now…well, here you go. Models are showing some consensus that the moisture should cut off by dusk, which would time out nicely for fireworks! Obviously there is no way to 100% guarantee that a shower will linger in spots, but I am hopeful. Sunday is showing lots of promise, and I think if you can move outdoor festivities back a day it would prove to be wise. Next week we return to seasonable conditions with highs in the mid to upper 80s with isolated late-day storms.
