Today's Forecast Updated Sunday at 12:35 PM
Look for a mostly cloudy & mild Sunday with high temperatures near 50. However rain, and then snow, will develop in the overnight hours. Snow will continue throughout the day on Monday.
- This Afternoon:
- Increasing Clouds, Mild
- Highs: 46-52
- Wind: SW 5-10 mph
- Rain Changing to Snow
- Lows: 28-35
- Snow: 90% Chance Rain/Snow
- Snow, Heavier North & West
- Highs: 30-37
- Snow: 90% Chance
The most significant snowfall of the season is likely tonight into Monday as a clipper system and a coastal storm threaten the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. A low pressure system over Iowa is moving east with rain expected here after sunset. The rain will changeover to snow after midnight with the potential for 4 to 6 inches in the Winter Storm Warning area in the Potomac Highlands. The city itself and areas to the east and south - all part of a Winter Weather Advisory - could see lesser amounts in the range of 1 to 3 inches. Colder air and the early onset of the snow will likely disrupt the morning commute and make for delays and closings. The snow is expected to continue throughout the day and into Monday evening. The system will then morph into a coastal storm and head up the Atlantic seaboard bringing heavy snow to Philadelphia, New York, and areas farther to the northeast. Southern Maryland, the Eastern Shore, and the Delmarva peninsula are part of a Winter Storm Watch area that could see 2 to 4 inches of snow and high winds Monday evening. The remainder of this afternoon will be far less eventful! Look for mostly cloudy skies and highs near 50. Temperatures will drop into the lower 30s tomorrow and even colder air will settle in for Tuesday and Wednesday.
